YOU MUST FULL-VIEW!

Oh wow, my final project for digital illustration is complete! This is a huge image, the largest digital file I've worked on to date. It's over 3500 pixels wide on the real version (the one here has been shrunken down).

Anyways, it's a treehouse village inhabited by a group of highly intelligent tree-dwelling rodents (name pending). They get all their resources from nature. They get the wood they use to build their platforms from the sawbills (a close relative of the woodpecker). With serrated edges on their beaks, they can easily cut through thick branches. These birds also act as transportation throughout the village. In return, they get free berries for the services they provide.

The blue lights come from the glowing lilies that grow on the trees, so they collect a bunch of them to provide a nice light source. The yellow lights also come from the lilies, but more indirectly. First they need the help of the bulbflies (there's one on the acorn lantern on the far right side of the image). They feed on the nectar of these flowers. Then special chemicals in their bodies turn the blue glow into a bright golden liquid. After that, this liquid needs to be extracted from the insects. So it's a pretty long process, but it's worth it because light they give off is much brighter than the blue ones.

So from sketch to concept to finish, this took about three weeks. If my computer was working, it probably would've taken less time but it wasn't, so this was all done in the computer lab.

But I don't mind. I finally made something in class that can actually put online.

Do not depend on other people to support you, do not lean on someone else and expect them to solve your problems for you. Instead hold their hand, let them help, that way you can just let go if needed…

I've been watching you for... what... about 2 years or three?

And your work still leaves me in awe. Your ideas are always fresh, or have a twist or surreal quality to them.

I hope to see more!

Yay for more postings!! I've missed seeing new art from you. There are some very cool effects that you use in this. I'm inspired to learn more about these tree-dwellers :)

that's quite stunning. =) I love the small details you've put there, the background really looks like there were other trees in the distance...

I think I could keep staring at that picture for quite a while and notice new details at each second of looking... very good work. :D
